Loved the Story

My family and I sat down and watched last night's 30 days episode.  We live on a Reservation , and myself and all of my family are enrolled members.  We share the same woes and barriers that the Navajo Nation does.  This goes for every reservation out there.  Unemployment is a big thing here, and it is hard to find jobs.  Our Summer Youth Work Program can only hire the first 160 kids for the summer, and the other 380 are S.O.L.

I was glad that Morgan pointed out that Casinos are not a guarantee for a better lifestyle...cuz it's not! our members don't get to see a penny of that money, because in one year, our VERY remote casino may make 3 million dollars, but it costs 4 million dollars to keep the thing open and operative...so it never sees the light of day.

My husband and I cried at the end when he is leaving and he found peace. He GOT what it meant to be an Indian, he lived it, breathed it, and completely immersed himself in the life for 30 days...and the sweat house really worked on him and opened his heart again in only a way that can be fully understood by other Natives.  It is a spiritual path that can only be taken by someone who is sincere in wanting to learn and willing to open their heart to the unknown.

Finally, he continued his morning jogging even after he went back home.  That in itself caused me to cry, because in all of us, there is that connection to Nature and our Creator, no matter who we are or where we come from.  We are all one, and *****ody is better than someone else.

Props props Props My Native Friend. Navajo is my Tribe and it's great to FINALLY know that someone like Morgan is touching down on America's "heartland" if you must. Thanks for the great posting - Cheers - Dawson (Navajo)

After watching the episode on the Navajo Nation all I could think about is "what can I do to change this deplorable situation?" With it being an election year does anyone ever represent the Native Americans and approach the candidates to find out if they plan to make any changes? Maybe everyone contact their Congressman and bring this completely Un-American situation into the light.
Maybe even contact Habitat for Humanity! Anyone, anything, there has got to be something done.
